The Power of Celebration: Why We Should Celebrate Achievements

Celebrating achievements

Welcome to this celebration!  BrightStars are individuals who want to grow and develop. We can easily fall into a rhythm of always challenging ourselves to do more and be more, to reach goals and build great habits. My question to you is:

Do you sometimes stop and celebrate when you or your team achieved a goal? Do you enjoy a quiet moment of reflection to celebrate your beautiful growth journey.

‘Why’ and ‘How’ can we celebrate accomplished goals?

⭐️ The Latin roots for the word ‘Celebration’ are a combination of a few words

– ‘Celebro’ – meaning

celebrate, feast, frequent…

– ‘Concelebro’ – meaning

To fill with life…

– ‘Celebramus’- meaning to sing praises of…, to observe and acknowledge…

My summary of the above mentioned would be something like: to frequently observe and acknowledge your own and other people’s growth journeys with a mindfully moment that will ‘fill our lives’.

⭐️ What is the purpose and benefits of celebrating?

Celebrations create opportunities for fun, amusement, entertainment, and recreation. These moments help to reduce stress, tension and anxieties that can negatively affect participation, or engagement.

According to a study in the Journal of Applied Psychology, Celebrations have been found to increase job satisfaction, commitment, and a sense of shared identity among team members.

Celebrating is vital because it reminds us that the bad times don’t last forever. Celebrating is part of the joy of living and even thriving. When we find reasons to celebrate, we express gratitude and remind ourselves that there is hope in every season of life.

When we use our BrightStar slogan ‘Yes to Joy!’, we are also saying ‘Yes to Celebrating!’.

In the BS lifestyle we acknowledge the importance of celebration, and we still have a lot of room for improvement:

– We celebrate growth. We celebrate Aha’s, we celebrate when someone takes responsibility for their thoughts, we celebrate when individuals start to realise their own worth, we celebrate when we see brilliance and excellence.

– In our team building theme a participant shared a huge aha: he realised that his company never celebrated an employee who started at the company as a cleaner and who now is his personal assistant. He made a commitment to immediately organise a celebration event!

– We include celebration as the 10th step on our Planning -ladder.

– We include celebration at the end of a Meaningful mentor journey.

– We try various methods to celebrate when we complete a new product.

Watch this space- we are still growing in this skill 😁.

⭐️ Is it selfish or bragging to share/ celebrate with someone when you reached a personal goal?

Not if you realise that reaching your goals will always influence the people around you and it might even inspire them.

Our bodies are designed to release dopamine when we complete a task. Give yourself a nice shot of this feel-good hormone when you finally complete reading that business book, or reached your health goal and conquered that new relationship habit!

Express the gratitude, joy, and appreciation you feel.

I am going to share a few ideas how to celebrate

⭐️ Own achievements:

– Pop the champagne! Or try a new coffee or tea or milkshake

– Do something fun! Have a ‘you day’ Throw yourself a party and enjoy your favourite food, favourite movie etc.

– Tell your friends about it and send thank you messages to the people who helped you succeed

⭐️ And a few ideas to celebrate the Team’s  achievements:

– Hold Project Accomplishment Meetings

Teammates share accomplishments they achieved or witnessed throughout the week.

– Arrange an ‘Assemble to honour’ meeting

Teammates can use compliments, emojis, or high fives and thank you notes to celebrate a co-worker’s efforts.

– Create a Accomplishment timeline

Make a visible timeline to celebrate moments like:

*                 Meeting a tough deadline

*                 Helping a coworker in need

*                 Leading a successful campaign

*                 Building a positive relationship with a new client

*                 Giving a good speech

Review it frequently.

⭐️ Let’s end on a lighter note…

Dave Barry: “My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far I’ve finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already.”

Let’s celebrate more!
